Aurora Dashcam — Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 2, 2024 · Last updated: September 29, 2026

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Aurora Vehicles Inc. ("Aurora", "we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the Aurora Dashcam mobile application (the "App") and all Aurora-branded dash cameras and related accessories we sell, install or support (the "Cameras"). Together, the App and the Cameras are the "Products".

This policy applies to every Aurora camera model, current and future, unless a specific product comes with its own privacy notice. By using the Products, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Products.

Our Cameras are manufactured for us by third-party hardware partners. Unless this policy says otherwise, those partners do not receive information from your Camera or the App through us.

2. How the Products work

The Cameras record video, and depending on the model and settings, photos, audio, GPS location, speed and impact (G-sensor) data. Recordings are stored on the memory card inside the Camera.

The App connects directly to your Camera over the Camera's own Wi-Fi network. When you view or download recordings, they move directly from the Camera to your phone. We do not upload your recordings to our servers, and we do not have remote access to your Camera.

3. Information we collect

We do not require you to create an account, and the App does not ask for your name, email address or phone number.

The following information is processed on your Camera and phone only, and is not sent to us:

  • Recordings: video, photos and, if enabled, audio captured by the Camera, saved to your phone only when you choose to download them.
  • Location and driving data: if your Camera records GPS location, speed or impact data, this is embedded in the recordings and stays with them.
  • Connection information:your Camera's Wi-Fi name and connection status, used only to find and connect to your Camera.

To improve the App, we may collect anonymous technical information such as device model, operating system version, and crash reports. This information does not identify you personally.

If you contact us for support, we will receive the information you choose to give us, such as your name, contact details, vehicle details and any recordings you send us. We use it only to help you.

4. Device permissions

The App may ask for the following permissions:

  • Location / Nearby devices:Android and iOS require this for apps to find and connect to Wi-Fi networks, such as your Camera's network. The App does not use it to track you.
  • Photos and media / Storage:to save recordings you download to your phone's gallery.
  • Camera: to scan the QR code used to set up or connect your Camera.

You can change these permissions at any time in your phone's settings. Some features may not work without them.

5. How information is used and shared

Information processed by the Products is used only to provide their features. We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties, except:

  • When you share it:if you share a recording using your phone's share feature, it is sent to the app or person you choose, and their privacy practices apply.
  • Dealers and installers: Cameras are often installed or serviced by vehicle dealerships or authorized installers. During installation, testing or repair, they may view or handle recordings on the Camera. They are independent businesses and are responsible for their own handling of that information. You may delete recordings before bringing your vehicle in for service.
  • Legal reasons: as described in section 10.

6. Recording other people and your responsibilities

The Cameras may capture images of other people, vehicles, licence plates, private property and, if audio recording is enabled, conversations inside your vehicle. You are responsible for how you use the Cameras and your recordings, including:

  • telling passengers when audio or interior recording is active, and getting consent where the law requires it;
  • following the laws where you drive about recording, mounting devices on windshields and using recordings;
  • using recordings lawfully, and not publishing footage of identifiable people in a way that breaks privacy laws.

We are not responsible for how you or anyone you share recordings with uses them.

7. Keeping and deleting recordings

Recordings stay on the Camera's memory card until they are overwritten by new recordings (loop recording) or deleted, and on your phone until you delete them. You control this: you can delete recordings from the App, the Camera or your phone at any time. Because we do not store your recordings or an account for you, we have no copy to delete.

If you sell, return, lend or dispose of your vehicle, Camera or memory card, you are responsible for deleting or formatting the memory card first and removing the App's connection from your phone. Recordings left on a Camera or card may be seen by the next person who has it.

8. Security

The Camera's Wi-Fi network is protected by a password. Please change the default Wi-Fi password in the Camera settings, keep it private, and keep your phone and the App updated.

No device, wireless connection or storage method is completely secure. Anyone with physical access to your vehicle, Camera or memory card, or who learns your Camera's Wi-Fi password, may be able to access recordings. We cannot guarantee the security of recordings stored on your Camera, memory card or phone, or of recordings you share.

9. Recording reliability and data loss

The Cameras are a driving aid and a record-keeping tool. They are not a safety system, and we do not guarantee that any particular event will be recorded, saved or retrievable. Recordings may be missing, incomplete, corrupted or overwritten for many reasons, including:

  • memory card failure, wear, damage, a full card, an incompatible or counterfeit card, or a card that has not been formatted;
  • loss of power, a vehicle battery or electrical fault, a disconnected or damaged cable, or a fault in the vehicle itself;
  • a collision, fire, water, extreme heat or cold, theft or vandalism;
  • Camera hardware or software faults, firmware updates, incorrect settings, a moved or blocked lens, or improper installation;
  • loop recording overwriting older footage, or an event file not being locked in time;
  • Wi-Fi interference or an interrupted transfer to your phone;
  • lighting, weather, glare, speed or distance that limits image quality or makes plates and faces unreadable.

You are responsible for checking regularly that your Camera is working, for replacing memory cards as recommended, and for saving important recordings promptly to another place. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aurora is not liable for any loss of recordings or data, or for any loss or damage that results from a recording not being captured, saved, retrieved or usable, including in insurance claims, disputes or legal proceedings. Your warranty terms and consumer rights under applicable law are not affected by this section.

10. Legal requests

We do not hold your recordings, so we generally cannot provide them to anyone. If we do hold information about you, for example from a support request, we may disclose it where required by law, a court order or a valid request from a government authority, or where needed to protect the rights, property or safety of Aurora, our customers or others.

Requests from police, insurers or other parties for recordings on your Camera should be directed to you as the owner of the Camera.

11. Future connected features

Some current or future Aurora products may offer features that use a cellular (4G/LTE or later) or internet connection, such as remote live view, cloud storage, GPS tracking, event alerts, remote firmware updates or fleet management. These features would involve sending information such as video, location, driving events and device identifiers off your Camera to us or to our service providers.

If we introduce any such feature, we will update this policy and, where required by law, ask for your consent before it is turned on. Connected features will be optional where possible, and we will explain what information is collected, where it is stored, how long it is kept and how to delete it. Cellular data plans and charges are your responsibility unless we tell you otherwise.

12. Children

The Products are intended for use by adult drivers. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Your rights and applicable law

We handle personal information in accordance with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Subject to those laws, you may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent, by contacting us. We will respond within the time required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

The App is available in countries outside Canada. If you use it elsewhere, local laws may give you additional rights. Any information we hold is stored in Canada or by service providers we choose, which may be located in other countries.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new products or features. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know. Continued use of the Products after an update means you accept the updated policy.
